Review of Tools for Capability Analysis for Non Normal Process Behavior

Six Sigma (SS) is a methodology oriented to reduce variation, as a result financial benefits occur. SS uses five phases to develop its projects: DMAIC -Define, Measure, Analyze, Innovate, and Control. Most tools implemented during DMAIC assume that the system under study is batch; nevertheless many systems in the industry work using continuous processes and many of them present non normal behavior. Adjustments must be made in order to obtain confident results. The measure phase is one of the most important because the actual state of the process is determined, during this phase the capability analysis takes place. In order to make the capability analysis for non normal process behavior changes must occur, mostly because capability indexes are based on normal behavior. This paper aims to present the different tools that exist to make the capability analysis for non normal data.
