摘要

This study assessed the impact of task interruptions, originating from a connected vehicle system (CVS), on driving performance among older and younger drivers as well as light vehicle and heavy vehicle drivers (N = 52). The study used metrics such as task completion time and time eyes on display to assess driver performance while using a driver vehicle interface (DVI) to complete user-initiated secondary tasks. This on-road field study simulated a vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) environment, displaying relevant CVS messages to the driver on an integrated DVI located in the center-stack of an experimental vehicle. The mixed model analysis indicated significant effects for age, driver type, road type, interruption type as well as interactions between interruption type and road type for the dependent variables measured. The implications of these findings for the application of future connected vehicle systems are discussed.
