The PAN-EUROPEAN CORRIDOR Ⅱ serves as an ideal example of streamlining ITS applications and harmonization activities, based on the most recent developed nationwide tolling systems in Europe. This Corridor is the only major connection between Western- / Central Europe and the Russian capital city Moscow and its vicinity. Thereby the largest city area in Europe (with estimated 25+ million people) - being Moscow - and Europe is connected by this road which experiences increased importance year by year. Surpassing four countries with remarkable differences in political governance, they have now to large extents applied a common standard in applying ITS. This follows on the one hand side European Union intentions but also shows - beside local benefits - the awareness of international transit traffic and the necessity to at least harmonize system applications in order to enable transport between these main regions of Europe.
