Ladies and gentlemen, As WODCON XX executive committee chairman and chairman of the CEDA Belgium section, it is my privilege to invite you to Brussels for the 20th edition of the World Dredging Congress. Dredging has developed into a major branch of the Belgian economy. Starting from a sustainable home market, our major dredging companies have extended their activities to all continents. The Flemish seaports and waterways agencies have also demonstrated that they play a leading role in their respective fields. Not all of you may be aware that Brussels is linked to the sea by a maritime canal and the River Scheldt, so its port may rightfully be called a seaport, but of course it is better known as the capital of Belgium and of the European Union, as well as the seat of NATO and many other international political and economic organisations.
