A new 7xx aluminum casting alloy is disclosed. Aluminum cast alloys generally contain from 3.0 to 8.0% by weight of Zn, from 1.0 to 3.0% by weight of Mg, wherein the weight percentage of Zn is greater than the weight percent of Mg, from 0.35 to 1.0% by weight of Cu, (Mn, Cr, Zr, Ti, B, and combinations thereof) of from 0.05 to 0.30 weight percent V, from 0.01 to 1.0 weight percent of one or more ancillary elements % Fe, and up to 0.25 wt.% Si, and aluminum and the balance of other elements, wherein the aluminum cast alloy comprises no more than 0.05 wt.% Of each other element, and the aluminum cast alloy comprises no more than 0.15 wt.% Includes the sum of the other elements.
