A Model for Change Classification of Geographical Data Based on Four Hierarchal Factors

A growing number of organizations and individualsimprove efficiency by utilizing geographical data. When thegeographical data are updated, the changed information must betransferred to the end-users to keep their client-databasescurrent. Distinguishing and identifying the change types of thegeographical objects is the premise of transferring the changeinformation. But now the methods for classifying changes havesome limitation. So in order to identity the change typology of thegeographical objects, we propose a new classification model ofchange classification based on the four hierarchal factors. Themodel can be described as Change = F (00, PP, SS, RR). Thefour factors are the geographical object (denoted as `00'), theproperty of geographical object (denoted as `PP'), the state ofgeographical object and geographical object property (denoted asSS'), and the result of calculation on the property values(denoted as `RR'). According to the model, there are three stepsto identify change types. The three steps can identify all changetypes of the geographical objects. Based on the new methodproposed in this work, we established software for automaticextracting change information and publishing them. Thepractical application effect indicated that this new method issatisfied to the requirements of many spatial data producers.
