Growth and characterization study of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate single crystals

Nonlinear optical crystals are very important for laser frequency conversion. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) is suitable for higher harmonic generation of huge laser systems for fusion experiments because it can be grown to larger sizes and also KDP has a high laser damage threshold. It has high optical nonlinearity, large temperature and angular allowance and it is non hygroscopic and mechanically hard. Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP) is a well known nonlinear optical material for various optoelectronic applications. ADP continues to be interesting materials both academically and industrially. In present study single crystals of pure ADP, pure KDP CuSO4 doped KDP crystals have been grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique. The cell parameters were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The enhancement in transmittance of grown pure ADP or KDP with addition of CuSO4 was determined by UV-Visible spectral analysis. The presence of dopant in the sample of grown crystal was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) analysis.
