Research and Design of a Cultural Product: Inclusive Design of a Squat Latrine

摘要

This paper presents a research and development project, the research generated user needs anddesign transformed research information into inclusive squat latrine concepts. The new latrine design is forall users safe and it allows equitable use by everyone. The latrine responds to age-old defecation practicegrounded in habit and cultural practice and it offers an ergonomic solution that helps maintainingcomfortable squat posture throughout the defecation process. Since latrine use is difficult for most usersand many experience difficulties over time, the ergonomic design and better buttock support minimizesstrain on the joints and helps everyone prolong latrine use.
