In Memory of Kurt Magnus:An Honouring of a Great Scholar of Gyro Technology

Professor Dr. Kurt Magnus (1912-2003) would celebrate his 100~(th) birthday on September 8, 2012. That is a reason to remember this internationally renowned scientist in the field of mechanics, particularly gyrodynamics and multibody system dynamics. Also he was very well-known as the Editor-in-Chief of the Ingenieur-Archiv (Archive of Applied Mechanics) from 1963 to 1980. Additionally, he was closely involved with the annually occurring international Symposium Gyro Technology. He was a member of the scientific advisory board of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Ortung und Navigation (DGON)" (German Institute of Navigation) and the chairman of the associated committee No. 8 on gyrodynamics from 1966 to 1971.
