Kurt Magnus: Commemorating his 100th birthday

Kurt Magnus, late Professor of Mechanics at the Munich University of Technology (TUM) and Editor-in-Chief of Ingenieur-Archiv (Archive of Applied Mechanics) from 1963 to 1980, would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2012. The internationally renowned scientist in the field of mechanics and particularly dynamics came from the Gottingen School of Ludwig Prandtl and Max Schuler. He focused his interests on the dynamics of gyroscopes, vibrations and control. His outstanding achievements include pioneering the fusion of dynamics and control technology and establishing multibody dynamics as an independent branch of solid mechanics.
