摘要

Focusing on the threat-response and coping behaviors of individuals, this longitudinal study examines how individuals assess their risk and exposure to identity theft and the cognitive perceptual processes individuals experience when faced with decisions they make to protect themselves against identity theft. The study combines the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM) perspectives to propose a model consisting of social and cognitive based variables. It also tests the adequacy of the model to predict an individual's intention to perform identity theft risk reducing behaviors.
