EFFECTS OF TELLURIUM OXIDE IN SILVER PASTE ON THE ELECTRICAL LOSSES IN SILICON SOLAR CELLS

Silver paste contacting to emitter of silicon solar cells creates shunting of p-n junction and induces recombination in the cells, due to metal silver crystallites on the emitter. Constituents of glass frit in the silver paste strongly affect creating the crystallites. However, effects of the glass frit constituents, the most well-known of which are silicon oxide and lead oxide, on the electrical losses are not understood enough, but recently tellurium oxide is highly concerned as a constituent of the frit to achieve high-efficiency of conventional p-type solar cells. In this study, the effects of the tellurium oxide in the silver paste on the electrical losses of the conventional solar cells are investigated by using the effectual "floating contact method". Our study based on the floating contact method will demonstrate that the tellurium oxide can reduce the shunting and the recombination caused by the silver paste in the conventional solar cells. It can be concluded that the tellurium oxide is an effective constituent of the frit to achieve high-efficiency solar cells in terms of its effects on the electrical losses.
