In this study a new approach for the comparative assessment of solar irradiance sensors is presented. Measurements of 4 short-circuited PV modules of different technologies (c-Si, mc-Si, a-Si, and CIS) are used as a reference for the effective irradiance. The ratio with the data of 15 different irradiance sensors is defined as a module-sensor mismatch. The mismatch values are examined over the range of solar irradiance. Moreover average values and standard deviations are determined at defined levels of irradiance. By applying the weighting factors of the European Efficiency the adjustment between the irradiance sensors and PV modules is presented in a concise and meaningful form. The evaluation reveals that even among solar cell sensors of same technology considerable differences can be observed.
