The aspiration to know and to correspond to consumer expectations, supposes a continuous challenge that companies must confront. Businesses have faced the need to satisfy customers today and to develop new products for the future. These requirements are reflected and accentuated in the tourism sector because they have a particular dependence on tourist preferences. The paper aims to provide the bases for a future research that will identify certain important elements for defining Romania's brand identity that will finally contribute to the development of the destination image.
