The push-over analytic method has been widely employed to study aseismatic performance of bridge structure. Given proper conditions, this efficient and straightforward method can conduct as reliable as more complicated methods. However, most push-over analyses are based on single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system and basic vibration mode of the structure, which may be not suitable for long-span and high-pier bridge. Through finite element analysis, this paper compares the seismic response of continuous girder bridge between the method considering basic vibration mode only and the method considering higher-order vibration modes. A dynamic time-history analysis of the bridge is also conducted to determine the reliability of the push-over analytic method considering higher-order vibration modes.
