Different pressure of spraying water commonly encountered in China has been used here to study the effects of ventilation on a fire extinguishing system installed as some buildings. The heat release rate and temperature of flame and the smoke characteristics at the sampling point at the burning compartment were studied systematically intended to find the effects of different wind velocity and pressure of spraying water on the combustion characteristics for a local fire happened in an opened compartment. A series of tests were reported, the fire extinguishing time, the temperature and heat release rate of flame and the smoke concentration was investigated as functions of the type of the wind velocity and the pressure of spraying water. The smoke concentration, the fire extinguishing time, the temperature and heat release rate of flame was described here, it is worth emphasizing on that the wind velocity and the pressure of spraying water exhibited a great effect on the fire.
