The application of Area Navigation (RNA V) techniques based on the conventional ground radio (DME, VOR, etc.) and airborne (INS, strapdown INS, etc.) facilities has resulted in the increased operational efficiency of the available air space. At present the transition from sensor based navigation to performance based navigation is in progress. Requirements for the airborne RNAV system performance are to be determined in terms of accuracy, integrity, operational availability, continuity and capacity that are essential for flying in the specific air space. Therefore the ICAO requirements for safety, regularity and efficiency of flights, and, as a result, for accuracy and reliability of the air navigation task solution are increasing. The analysis of requirements and flight test data of the state-of-the-art avionics systems has demonstrated the necessity of widespread application of the integrated INS* and RNS** data processing (IDP) algorithms in the airborne avionics computers to ensure solutions for the air navigation tasks.
