Slot misuse delays and airport collaborative decision making in regional coordinated airports

Regional airports with intense seasonal demand and delay problems in peak periods oftenexperience deviation from coordination schedule. As airport capacity cannot be easilyexpanded, the current IATA mechanism of slot allocation cannot guarantee theoptimisation of airport operations and infrastructure utilization. New remedies are alreadybeing developed to enhance this mechanism including slot buffers, slot monitoring andsanction schemes. In this paper airport collaborative decision making (ACDM) isassessed as an effective measure against slot misuse, airport congestion and delays.
