A fast dissolving solid dosage form was developedfor aqueous extract of oriental medicine using freezedryingtechnique. Hyeonggaeyeongyotang was selected asa model oriental medicine. Formulation and processingparameters were optimized to obtain freeze-dried tabletwith high drug loading, good palatability, and fastdisintegration time. Kollidon(R) CLM served as both matrixformer and taste masking agent. Ethanol, used as cosolvent,decreased the disintegration time of tablet.Aspartame was employed to impart better taste. Dryingcondition was found to have major effect in themorphology of the tablets. Freeze-drying process wasoptimized to decrease the processing time and improvethe appearance of the tablets.
