An innovative approach to noise level assessment of combustion noise in DI Diesel engines has been presented. The approach considers the cycle-to-cycle contribution of in-cylinder source to estimate the noise level evolution with the structural attenuation curve of the engine. Results show the suitability of this approach for qualitative studies of engine noise at certain operating conditions.
