The concept for the introduction of an ESD control system, which was introduced at the last APEX 2004 and 2005 in Anaheim, will be expanded through the most important topic at the moment: static control requirements to machines and production plants. The biggest failures we have in the next time in machines. The requirements of the Technology Roadmap are very high. New malfunction sources of electrostatic charges will be found on PCBs (printed circuit boards). Electrostatic charges on human bodies can be reduced. Electrostatic charges in automated handling process are hard to find and to reduce. Two new failure models for PWBs are explained in the second part: F1CBM and CBM.The ESD control program is introduced with the new IEC 61340-5-1 edition 1 (08/2007). This standard includes the important parts from the American standard ANS/ESD S20.20.2007 either. Furthermore, the ESD control program contains administrative and technical requirements.
