Teaching Dialogue to Interdisciplinary Teams through Toolkits

We present some lessons we have learnedfrom using software infrastructure tosupport coursework in natural languagedialogue and embodied conversationalagents. We have a new appreciationfor the differences between courseworkand research infrastructure—supportingteaching may be harder, because studentsrequire a broader spectrum of implementation,a faster learning curve and the abilityto explore mistaken ideas as well aspromising ones. We outline the collaborativediscussion and effort we think is requiredto create better teaching infrastructurein the future.
