A microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method is presented for the extraction of vitaminE from wheat germ. Various experimental conditions, such as solvent concentration, MAE time,liquid/solid ratio, pre-leaching time before MAE were investigated to optimize the extraction. Theyield of extracted compounds obtained by microwave irradiation was compared with that obtainedusing the traditional extraction. It is showed that the conditions for wheat germ 5g, liquid/solid6:1( v/w), MAE time 2 min , and ethanol concentration 50%. The extraction rate was16.65mg/100g .the content of alpha-tocopherol is1.425mg/5g. From the points of extraction time,the extraction rate, MAE was more effective than the conventional extraction methods studied. Itshowed that MAE of vitamin E from wheat germ is a promising measure for further utilization ofagricultural products.
