In today’s marketplace, the competition for jobs is stiffer than ever. Many are faced with the threat, or fact, of changing jobs or even careers. As unemployment reaches six percent, 1.4 million workers have lost their jobs in the past 24 months. The modern workplace has workers now dealing daily with the constant risk of joblessness via layoffs, downsizing, firing, project shifts, mergers, personality conflicts, etc. A college education and ambition are not enough to ensure short-term, much less permanent, job security. In addition, most professionals recognize that an economy-driven layoff will probably happen to them more than once in their lives. In order to protect their marketability, today’s resource management professional must possess basic enterprise resources planning (ERP) skills, as well as proficiency in leadership, mentoring, and networking. Using hands-on exercises, this presentation will enable the participant to assess the skills they currently have and the additional skills they need to add value in the changing economy. Participants will learn what skills and values they need to improve their worth in their current environment; how to transfer resource management skills to other industries; the necessity of keeping skills up to date; and the importance of networking in career growth and job satisfaction.
