PVC stabilizers based on lead are the predominant method of stabilizing PVC compoundsfor US wire and cable applications. Stabilizer systems based on the non-toxic metalscalcium and zinc have made significant technological advances over the past ten yearsand can cost effectively replace lead based stabilizers in many wire and cableapplications. This paper will compare the performance of recently developed calciumzinc stabilizers with that of their lead based counterparts in various wire and cableapplications.
