The performance of recently-developed calcium/zinc stabilisers was compared with that of their lead-based counterparts in various PVC wire and cable applications,i.e.general-purpose PVC jacketing applications and THWN insulation applications.It is shown that in many general-purpose jacketing applications Ca/Zn stabiliser systems like Therm-Chek RC 291P(Ferro Corp.)can cost-effectively replace tribasic lead sulphate,while in THWN applications a Ca/Zn stabiliser system such as Therm-Chek 424 can be used to replace dibasic lead phthalate.
