A novel gel formation method was designed in order to prepare calcium alginate (CaAlg) gel films that reflect the CaAlg coating on pellets. The effect of release medium on the properties of CaAlg gels has been tested. Protons and sodium ions in the media influenced the properties of CaAlg gels by ion-exchange.
