The elaboration process of multimedia educational materials is complex and time-consuming. It needs, together with adequate materials and technological infrastructure, the collaboration of professionals specialised in different disciplines, such as, computing science, graphic and picture illustration design, pedagogy, as well as experts in the field in question (ie. Pathology, Surgery, etc.). This implies the need to organise and train a work team, the need to structure and coordinate it, which requires the existence of a team head. On the other hand, it is expected that the experts work on a cooperative interactive basis, which is not always easy, due to lack of experience and training of such professionals n this kind of work. Together with the organizational and social factors, the didactic aspects implied in the elaboration of MEMs are very important. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an instructional design from the social and training needs detected among the population they are aimed at, so that students reach the learning objectives-conceptual, procedural and attitudinal-which cater for those needs. This process implies the selection of content and its organization in blocks or didactic units and their inter-relation through hypermedia. The MEMs to be elaborated can be designed for more than one purpose in a learning process. In our case, the materials have been designed not only as an aid to face-to-face teaching but as also as a self-learning tool. Consequently, a suitable layout and organization of content and an adequate selection of the media to be incorporated as motivating learning resources are essential. Finally, the importance of an internal and external evaluation of the materials created should be stated and highlighted, both as regards the elaboration process and the product itself. Thus, the above mentioned pedagogical and communication aspects among professionals and the degree of quality reached by MEMs must be taken into consideration.
