This paper deals with simulation of ballistic impact of thick composite plate using a meshlessmethod SPH (Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics). A visco-plastic constitutive model and a separatefailure criteria for fiber and matrix were used to describe rate dependent response and failuremechanism. Two ballistic impact experiments using high-speed gas gun were conducted. Residualvelocities of the bullets were measured. Numerical prediction of residual velocity agrees well withtest results.
