RD Status and Future Plan of Nuclear Forensics for Analytical Technology and National Library at JAEA

摘要

Illicit trafficking of nuclear materials and other radioactive materials has been a matter of world concern since early 1990s. Once the unknown nuclear/radioactive materials are detected and seized from a nuclear security event, their origin, history and intended use will be analyzed by nuclear forensics activity, and such information supports to improve national nuclear security system. The Japan Government issued the national statement at Nuclear Security Summit in 2010 to develop the technologies related to measurement and detection of nuclear materials for nuclear forensics. In response to this statement, Japan Atomic Energy Agency has started R&D project on nuclear forensics technology from JFY 2011. The developments of fundamental technologies of nuclear forensic analysis are expected to be finished by JFY 2013, and the results will be shared with international community as a first step of the project. This paper presents outline, present status and brief results of the development of the nuclear forensics analytical technology and nuclear forensics library at JAEA. Some future plan of the R&D project will be also introduced in the presentation.
