A hot strip mill (HSM) reduces steel slabs from typically 230 mm to strip products with thickness ranging typically from 1.2 to 12 mm, with the finishing temperature (FXT) varying from 820 deg - 910 deg C and the coiling temperature (CET) in the range of 520 deg - 740 deg C, depending on product requirements. The hot-rolled coils are then processed in a pickle line where the oxide scale on the strip surface is removed using hot hydrochloric (or sulfuric) acid prior to further processing.
