A YIG (yttrium iron garnet; Y_3Fe_5O_(12)) single crystal film, which is utilized in noise reduction devices, 'S/N enhancer' was grown on a GGG (gadolinium gallium garnet) substrate by LPE (liquid-phase epitaxy). Improvement in the thermal homogeneity throughout both the liquid and gas portions inside the crucible was effective in attaining consistent quality, thickness and magnetic properties, for a film of 3 inches (76 mm) in diameter. Moreover, thinner films of less than 10 μm of better FMR (ferromagnetic resonance) quality could be obtained with the introduction of a periodic layer structure.
