PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a nonmagnetic garnet single crystal substrate capable of stably growing a bismuth substitution type rare earth iron garnet single crystal (RIG) film having an insertion loss of 0.30 dB or less when light having a waveband of 1 μm is incident; a RIG film grown on the nonmagnetic garnet single crystal substrate; and a method for growing the RIG film.;SOLUTION: The nonmagnetic garnet single crystal substrate is shown by the chemical formula of Sm3 ScxGa5-xO12 (where, 1.73≤x≤1.75) and has a lattice constant of 1.26095-1.26105 nm. The RIG film is shown by the chemical formula of NdyBi3-yFe5O12 (where, 1.95≤y≤2.05) and has an insertion loss of 0.30 dB or less when light having a wavelength of 1060 nm is incident in a film thickness causing a Faraday rotation angle of 45° to the light having a wavelength of 1060 nm.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2018,JPO&INPIT
