A ground water flow model and a contaminant fate and transport model was constructed to develop risk-based soil remediation gals at a former solvent recycling facility. The soil and ground water contain chlorinated organic compounds including trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, and vinyl chloride. A ground water containment system has been in operation to halt migration of these chemicals toward a municipal well field. Beneath the site is a 250-feet-thick buried valley-type aquifer consisting of fine-to coarse-grained sand and gravel which is overlain by 20 feet of silt-rich clay. The ground water in the aquifer is under confining pressure as evidenced by water levels in wells.
