Safety In Integrated Control Systems Paper for the 29~th International Symposium on Robotics

There is at present a problem of integrating the safety related control system and safety devices with the modern control system used in automated plants and processes. Marrying effectively, by way of cost and mechanics, old technology relay based safety systems with modern PCs and PLC's brings quite a challenge to the requirement of Safety by Design. Requirements for greater controllability are increasing, but so to are the demands for safe systems and processes by both users and authorities. This paper discusses this area and presents a consideration of the techniques and technology used by the Safenet system to provide a solution to this problem, and also gives an application example.
