A mixed culture system with two strains is used for producing 2-ketogulonic acid (2-KGA). the interaction between the two strains was studied and verified by experiment. the results showed that the accompanying cell (big cell) does not produce so called "growth factor", it only offers a surface for small cell. The small cell is able to grow and produce KGA, only if there is a surface for it to attach. The 2-KGA produced by small cell inhibits the growth of big cell and facilitates the formation of the spore of big cell. Thi is a newly obsered phenomenon between a cell and its accompanying cell in industrial fermentation.
