The fermentation of the biotransformation product 4"-O-propionylspiramycin was discussed in this paper. Fermentation process development studies in shake flask shown that glucose was favorable carbon sources for cell growth, but high concentration of glucose led to slow cell growth and limited iotransformation rate. Var. 68 preferred the raw organic nitrogen. The adding time of transformation substrate i.e. spm had great effect on the biotransformation rate. On the base of the experiment in shake flask, the fermentation studies were carried out on the 5L fermentor. The biotransformation rate attained 80
