Automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems complement the oepration of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) by providing an integrated automated material handling system that takes advantage of the system's flexibility. Previous research considering AGV systems for use in FMSs has focused on complex control strategies to account for and lessen congestion.
