Vinyl is the most versatile thermoplastic as far as performance characteristics and suitability for processing techniques (extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, etc.) are concerned. This makes it ideal for use in areas of such diverse requirements as the construction industry, transportation, appliances, housewares, toys, consumer products and last but not least, medical devices.The Freedonia Group projected an annual 4.2 % growth for the world-wide use of plastics in medical applications to about 2700MM lbs by 1996, with vinyl compounds growing at a 5.4 % rate to 750MM lbs, constituting the largest volume for a single polymer. The reason for this continued growth is the unmatched versatility of vinyl, coupled with a low price and a corresponding high price/performance ratio.
