摘要

The photochemical and thermal modification of vapor deposited polycyanoacrylate films on ITO coated glass substrates may be used as high tilt angle alignment layers in the construction of liquid crystal devices. Spectroscopic analysis of the films suggests that the polymeric species responsible for the alignment contains both imide and imine type structures. The new process for growing alignment layers has initially provided tilt angles as high as 7.7° but with optimization it is expected to achieve even higher values. The vapor process eliminates the need to spin cast and does not require solvents nor bake-out processing steps.
