Performance experiments within local ATM networks (keynote paper)

摘要

The efficient provision of connectionless services in an ATM network environment is essential for the support of "traditional" LAN applications in this new network environment. This paper deals with performance measurements from the ATM/AAL~1 up to the TCP/IP level done at GMD-FOKUS on the basis of a ForeSystems~2 inhouse ATM network which is part of the ATM test and management center currently being settled here. We will describe the network configuration and some ATM/AAL details and based on that provide in a bottom up approach results of throughput and delay measurements on various software levels in a SunSPARC~3 environment.
