DATA MANAGEMENT PLATFORM FUNCTIONS TO SUPPORT NETWORK AND OPERATIONS PROGRAMMABILTTY

The support of a network and operations environment that is programmable by the local exchange carrier is becoming increasingly important.In this environment,application programs can be developed under the carrier's control to provide sophisticated network services by tailoring basic network and operations capabilities.To support the execution of these applications.versatile platform systems are needed.Advanced data management capabilities should be available in such platforms for applications to manipulate data in a distributed ellvironment.These data mariagement capabilities inciude:(1)location transparency,(2)distributed transaction control and (3)replication trarLsparency.This paper examines these topics in anticipation of the fulure need to formulate generic requirements in this area for programmable Network Elements and Operations Systems.
