Closed circuit tests are the routine and mandatory tests for ore-dressing engineers and scientists. This type of tests are normally complicated, laborious, and the test results fluctuate wildly. If the flowsheets of the tests are complex, it may be impossible to conduct such tests. For a long time effective ways are sought to predict the closed circuit test results using an open circuit test. The use of computers is one possible method. The author has used the theory of Markov chain to describe the closed circuit tests, and then set up the one-step transition probability matrix based on open circuit tests. Form this a computer program has been developed to simulate the closed circuit tests. The simulation gives results that are very close to the actual tests. If we consider the uncertainties in the actual laboratory tests, then it seems entirely possible to predict the closed circuit test results by a computer simulation.
