AN OPTIMUM SATELLITE SYSTEM FOR REGIONAL AND DOMESTIC APPLICATIONS IN AFRICA

The present trends for enhanced communication capacity in the developing countries calls for regional approaches, in which satellite systems seem to offer particularly well suited solutions. This paper presents an optimized approach for a regional satellite system in Africa, intended for domestic and interstate applications in the field of telephony transmission and television distribution.The main features of a dedicated satellite system for such purposes are given, together with the basic trade-offs that support this approach.
