Technology imprints are of particular concern to the engineering manager because of their presumed ability to negatively affect the productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the workforce. A model was developed to measure the effects of imprints on frequency of use of technology. A user's degree of imprinting is attributed to the likeability of the system as reported by the user, as well as the user's attitude strength toward that system. It is hypothesized that imprinted users will have significantly lower frequencies of use of technological objects than non-imprinted users. Effects of cognitive and affective factors on frequency of use are investigated. The cognitive factors perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, are adapted directly from the technology acceptance model. This paper presents an argument in support of including affect in technology usage research, specifically that in which imprints are involved. Additionally, the experiment designed to measure the effects of imprints on frequency of use is presented.
