A STUDY OF COORDINATE-BASEDLOCATION REFERENCING METHOD

Location referencing technology has attracted attentions as one of the fundamentalrntechnologies used for achieving Telematics and LBS (Location Based Service). In recentrnyears, particularly in Europe, research on the on-the-fly location referencing method usingrnlatitude and longitude as primary information has been energetically pursued in an effort torndevelop a new method capable of resolving issues with the widely used pre-coded method.rnMeanwhile, since about the year 2000, the authors, quite independently of Europe, have beenrnstudying a location referencing method featuring "identification of a target road byrnconfiguration of its shape using latitude and longitude data." In effect, this method is highlyrncompatible with the GoodLane method under study by European AGORA. The authors havernalso introduced study details from time to time at ISO TC204 SWG 3.3 promoting thernstandardization of location referencing. This paper introduces the location referencing methodrnstudied in Japan.
