Based on the successful application of Controller Area Network(CAN) in a wide range of embedded systems, we tried to apply CAN-BUS to the armored vehicle by developing a new type of CAN controller using Field-programmable gate array(FPGA). In this thesis, we give a detailed discussion about how to design the protocol stack of the new controller to meet the harsh applied requirements of armored vehicle, which not only provide real-time LANs with quality of service support for long periods time, but also bring the network more reliability and maintainability.
