摘要

The paper describes computer numerical simulation of the impact of bridge parapet using nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) software. The bridge parapet is mainly composed of rails, posts and base plates. The rails are designed to redirection errant vehicle. The posts are optimized according to their resisting torsion property. The connection posts with base plates and the connection base plates with foundation are analyzed to decrease damage to bridge structure resulting from errant vehicle impacting bridge parapet. The bridge parapet crashworthiness, redirection and reducing occupant risk capability have been validated by truck and bullet vehicle FEA model crashing FEA bridge model. The bridge parapet has passed the full-scale impact testing requirements presented in EN1317 (Europe) and NCHRP Report 350 (USA). The bridge parapet has been used in highway safety applications that will mitigate injuries to occupants of errant vehicles.
