A set of 36 ships extracted from RADARSAT-2 Moving Object Detection Experiment 1 (MODEXrn1), two aperture Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) data has been used in combination withrnAutomatic Identification System (AIS) reports to test and validate a sub-set of GMTI algorithms developedrnby Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC). GMTI channel balancing issues and waverninduced ship motion issues are discussed. Root Mean Square (RMS) differences between Along-TrackrnInterferometry (ATI) speed estimates and AIS vessel speed reports are shown to fall within 0.42 m/srnfor the worst case scene observed. Results from a multi-look direction-of-arrival (DOA) algorithm showrnpromise for significantly improving the extraction of ship heading estimates from MODEX 1 data.
