Attempting to characterize the Rotational Drum Fermentation System (RDFS), which seemed to be available for anaerobic treatment of non-or low water-dilution livestock manure (called here Dry Methane Fermentation (DMF)), two sets of experiments were conducted. The basic data including pH, VA, TS, VSS and weight reduction of the fermentors containing the various water-diluted slurry of the manure and the anaerobic sludge were determined respectively for the two batch experiments. The results indicated that the rheological property of raw livestock manure was improved considerably after several hours since RDFS start-up and averaged 33% organic solids were considered to be biodegraded and gasified. Compared to the conventional system, the reaction time before steady-state was longer. However, from both energy conservation and environmental points of view, the RDFS was feasible and efficient for dry methane fermentation. Furthermore, due to the treatment of raw waste without water-dilution and the adoption of single-phase fermentation, the total cost of the waste treatment by RDFS was expected to be reduced greatly
